Short Break

Given world events it’s become a little more difficult to focus on those squawking about their freedoms being trampled and not getting a fair deal from Ottawa.

So Ms Soapbox is taking a short break. Talk to you in 2 weeks.

Take care, everyone.

Susan: Thanks for your great blogs. I hope you enjoy your break. Since St. Patrick’s Day is coming up shortly, I’ll share some really good Irish music. I have this album in my music collection. It’s Just The Smile, from Rory Gallagher. It is one of Rory Gallagher’s folk inspired compositions, from 1971, on his first solo album, after the group Taste broke up. Rory Gallagher also does blues, rock and even did country and jazz influenced music. William Rory Gallagher was born on March 2, 1948, and passed away on June 14, 1995. One of Ireland’s many great artists.

  12. Dwayne says:

Susan: I don’t have them in my music collection, but I like this music trio, from Belfast, who formed in 2018. They are Dea Matrona. Molly McGinn is on guitar, and her sister, Mamie McGinn is on drums, and Orlaith Forsythe is the bass player. Here, they are doing a cover of Rory Gallagher’s, composition, Cradle Rock, live on a rooftop. Great slide guitar playing here too, and the bass and drums are also phenomenal.

  13. Dwayne says:

Susan: This is my final song pick. Dea Matrona do a cover of the Carly Simon tune, You’re So Vain. I really like this. I thought I’d share some positive music, to help make people feel better. Hope you have a great week. ☘️☘️

    MS

The world, political and geopolitical, is relentlessly negative and draining.

Your need for a break is completely understood and you should be doing it regularly, throughout the year, to maintain your sanity.

I hope you have a great break. Thank you for your much needed commentary on our current, difficult times. Dave Cunningham Calgary CANADA 403-571-7171

Well again reply did not work so here it is again
I apologize if WordPress repeats it

Yes we are drained and amazed with the absolutely absurd behaviour of our Conservative politicians parroting Trump and his eastern twin Putin. This is what they want to bring to Canada. Furthermore the Neo-liberal globalization process of the last 30 years, under the pretext that trade brings countries closer and force dictatorships to soften and even change, create the two monster twins of Russia and China who instead of getting closer, used our stupidity to embolden themselves and instead force us to become more like them as we are witnessing with the idiotic evangelical absurdity of Poilievre. Jason Kenney and many others all attached by their shrinking brains to their main prophet Harper.

We are definitely drained but think of what it is like to see your home being bombed and your children and spouses being murdered by megalomaniacs like Putin and repeating what the Americans did in Iraq despite the fact that our journalists in this case did not report it as war crimes because of course we were too chicken to offend our so called cousins – certainly not mine.

The reason for us being drained is the 2 year pandemic along with the guilt and the shame of witnessing what could become our own fate in the next few months.

There is a solution for our Conservative politicians – get them together and send them to Mariupol to help the catastrophe. They would not last 1 day without shitting their pants.

I like the Russian journalist am ashamed of our politicians in general.

  19. Carlos says:

Well Word Press is giving me a hard time

I have mentioned this several times – the fact that we seem to be getting crazier and more retarded than ever before.
Here is something that may explain it along with of course with thousands of chemicals we dump in our rivers as if somehow these pollutants just go to the ocean and disappear.
Well I think this is the next big crisis coming despite our focus on climate change. I truly believe this one is way more serious. Fetus alcohol syndrome will be the least of our concerns when major all around defects start coming up in droves. I personally believe that the astronomical numbers of autism and all the other issues we are witnessing with our young children packaged under learning disabilities and with interesting names like ADHD, are already the consequence of our wonderful price of doing business dump crap everywhere type attitude.
This is a study of lead now imagine the rest of it.

    Try to post again

In my readings trying to understand the previous article I posted where Chrystia Freeland’s grandfather was the editor of a far-right magazine and trying to understand why Putin and his gang of thugs and liars like Lavrov that denies that Russia is attacking the Ukraine I found this article published in the Nation Magazine that really gave me quite a bit of information and understanding of why Putin keeps talking about the denazification of the Ukraine.

Although there are articles claiming this is all wrong I like to be able to find the truth in this world of misinformation and deliberate corruption of facts. We have just recently witnessed this during the so called ‘Freedom Convoy’. A world overwhelmed with conspiracy theories and hard to navigate for those trying to understand reality.

The Nation is a reputable magazine and I would like to believe this is a factual article.
The reason I am posting it is because this is a very damaging article and I would like to know what some of you reading this think or have to say about it. I know little of the Ukrainian history and to be honest I do not trust most of the mainstream media anymore including the New York Times and the Time magazine where another article was published that I am also attaching, I no longer trust either of them. In face of our horrific UCP misinformation and politics in general I admit I no longer trust most politicians either. It is a very sad state of affairs.

    Here is Time’s article

I know that Susan is taking a deserved brake but I am sure she does not mind us discussing these issues.

    Thank you for reading

  21. Dave says:

I somewhat get where you are coming from, Susan. So much of the bad news right now is about how people are behaving and/or treating others badly. Terrible things like natural disasters and disease happen. Those are not our fault, however, how we respond to them does say something.

I would like to believe people have not become worse recently, but I am not so sure. Certainly COVID has disrupted society, perhaps more than we realize. However, it wasn’t like things weren’t already going in the direction of crazy before it. For instance, US politics went off the deep end way before COVID.

Canada used to be such a sane, peaceful country and I hope we will get back to that soon. If anything the Ukrainian invasion might help some of us put things in better perspective. I suppose we have problems and lingering grievances here, like everywhere, but compared to other places we have quite a bit of freedom and it is fairly peaceful. Everyone, lets not forget that.

How can I not post this amazing lunatic world

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/kenney-recording-ucp-alberta-leadership-review-staff-1.6396647
This society cancer says the following –

‘I do not need this job – I stay to stop the lunatics from trying to take over the asylum’

Well Jason Kenney please let the 2nd degree lunatics take over the asylum because your first degree is destroying this province. So please do leave. We all thank you for that. It will be like the New Year for at least 60% of us
